Terrostar Wins Gold at Davey Awards

Davey Award Winning Website

We’re happy to announce Terrostar is a 2020 Davey Gold Award Winner for the design and development of the Urological Associates, P.C. website.

The Davey Awards is the largest and most prestigious awards competition exclusively for small creative agencies. The entering agencies may be small, but the judges are not. The Davey is sanctioned and judged by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts. This invitation-only group is made up of top-level professionals from acclaimed media, advertising and marketing firms around the world.

Entries in each of the 12 categories are judged on their merits based on a standard of excellence determined by the AIVA. Entries are scored on a ten point scale, with Gold Winners receiving a score of 9.0 or above and Silver Winners receiving a score of 7.0 to 8.9.

Urological Associates of the Quad Cities specializes in diseases of the urinary system. They care for men, women, and children throughout the Quad Cities region.

When Urological Associates came to us, their website was difficult to use and the design was outdated. During our Discover Phase, we collected user research that showed visitors found it difficult to locate important information about the practice’s treatments and technology, locations and contact information on their original site. With this data, we created a streamlined, responsive website that meets the needs of the website users and the Urological Associates staff.

The client wanted a professional, clean, and mobile-friendly design. We analyzed their existing brand assets, and modified their color palette, logo, and photography treatments. By softening and extending their color palette and font treatments, we were able to elevate their design and make them more patient centric and approachable. To feature their diverse patient offerings, we incorporated more inclusive photography that showed off the large demographic of patients they serve. We included educational resources on diagnosis and treatments to help with patient education. To help engage their users, we utilized some parallax scrolling features and movement to make the content easier to navigate and digest. And the design is not only desktop friendly; the responsive framework scales to the user’s device making the experience seamless from one device to another.

All public facing code was developed using a modern front-end tool chain including SASS and PostCSS. This allows us to provide the widest possible browser compatibility with the smallest overall payload. All images are served in multiple next-generation formats; and hand-crafted HTML keeps the site semantic, accessible and fast. Attention to these details along with some sensible cache-management policies on the server allow the site to score in the high 90s in most Lighthouse benchmark tests.

The client’s likely daily interactions with the management side of the website were analyzed and we reorganized the admin console to keep their most used features easy to find and intuitive to use. All site content, and images can be easily changed by a non-technical user in a matter of seconds.

We’re honored to receive recognition for our design and development work. It takes a truly connected, dedicated, talented team to create these custom digital solutions. We’re excited to see what’s in store for 2021!
